Multiplex EasyStar
- Wingspan 54 in
- Fuselage Length
36 in
- Weight 24 oz

Price as tested: $59

My first impression of
the EasyStar was not that good when I saw it in my local hobby store
and already being a experience RC pilot I had no need for it. The
first time I flew one I was teaching a beginner that had purchased
it. I was still not crazy about it, but for a beginner plane it fit
perfectly. What started to change my mind was one day when we put a
6.5oz video camera on it with the stock motor/prop set-up the plane
flew very well. I also learned that it was easy to repair no matter
how bad the damage, which is why I'm a big fan of Multiplex's EPP
Foam planes. I finally bought one after I had crashed my GWS Slow
Stick that I was using for aerial photography. Since I wanted a
plane to take on camping trips and needing to belly land where
there's no runway the EasyStar fit as a good replacement. I
never liked the slow turning response with the little rudder so I
added to it a little. I really like the way it flies.
The EasyStar flies very will on the stock set up but I modified mine
to use a brushless out-runner motor and ESC.
Positives:
Easy to fly, quick build time,
easy to repair, handles added weight, easy to modify for FPV
Negatives:
Slow turning response due to a
small rudder (good for beginner), Not the best looking plane either.

KX-151 (KPC-S700CB) high resolution
CCD camera
Features:
- SONY 1/3 " Super HAD CCD
- 480 horizontal lines of resolution.
- Sensitivity: 1.0Lux / F2.0
Price as tested $89
I received fast shipping from
Hobby Wireless. I have used a lot of video cameras as a technician in
the security industry and I was impressed with the resolution for a
small light weight camera the KX-151 (KPC-S700CB)
has. I have abused this
camera on R/C airplanes, Helicopters and cars without any problems.
I also like the fact it's 12volts so on aircraft I can't have the
extra weight of a separate battery I can run it off the main 12 volt
battery (it's recommended to run a separate battery for video gear).
The case is very strong and holds up to R/C abuse and the lens can
be change out to a wide angle if desired (KX-131 &151 use the same
lens)
Positives:
This a great camera for a high
quality FPV video. With 1/3 CCD, 480 lines it
is superior camera compared to the KX-131
(5volts). It is suitable for RC
airplanes, Helicopters, cars, boats, what ever you can imagine.
Some of the great features is its small size, light weight and
its tough aluminum case that protects the camera.
Negatives:
Colors could be brighter when
compared to a KX-131 but the better detail in picture wins out.
White balance changes with
light and gets to white (brightness) at times.

Review: Hobby Wireless 2.4ghz FPV
500mw Plug"n"Play system The
guy's at Hobby Wireless where prompt to answer my emails and I
really like the fact that they fly FPV planes and use there gear
almost daily. So with this in mind I ordered the 2.4ghz 500mw FPV
Plug"n"Play system on Monday and it arrived 3 day's later at a cost
just under $300. That's fast shipping!!. I installed the Hobby
Wireless (HobbyWireless.com) Plug"n"Play system into a MPX EasyStar
with a Berg RX, brushless motor, etc... I was very impressed on how
easy this set up was to put together and in about 15 minutes I had
it up and working on the EasyStar. Another big plus was the fact I
can use standard servo extensions if I need to move the gear further
apart. I have 8 FPV flights with this gear and no problems to
report.
Positives:
Very easy to use and install. Top
quality equipment.
Negatives:
None
The FPV500 also has 8 different
channels that can be selected in case you want to use with
someone else that has the same system without interfering on
each others frequency. The FPV500 transmitter can be powered
through a JST connector using any DC power source from 5 to 24
volts, and it comes with a very stable and noise free 5v
switching regulator, which provides regulated power to the
camera and the transmitter. The transmitter has a LED to let you
know when the power is on. Also a great feature is, if you plug
the battery pack in wrong, the transmitter is provided with
Reverse-Polarity Protection, so you will not blow your system
up. Nice.

Comes with everything to get
started other then the plane and monitor. Audio/Video TX, RX,
Mic, Camera, Voltage regulator, Cords, Etc...

Review: Range Videos 900mhz wireless video system
(TX and RX)
900mhz (.9ghz) 500mW audio/video TX
900mhz Standard Audio/Video Receiver
Reviewed (4-13-07) I have had a couple different wireless system on
2.4ghz with good results but after I purchased a Spectrum DX7 2.4 GHz RC
radio I discovered some interference issues so I switched to the .9 GHz
(900mhz). I have noticed that I get better range and less video drop outs
with the 900 gear and no interference as long as the wireless whip antenna
is more then 10" away from the aircrafts RX antenna. The Range Videos 900 RX
and TX are of good quality with 4 channels to chose from.
Positives:
Good quality gear. Answers emails promptly
with any questions you might have. Shipping is fast. Good video quality at
long ranges. Good price.
Negatives : There is no instructions or wiring diagrams so
some knowledge of this type of gear is a must. Audio was a problem using
standard microphones with the audio being to low. I ended up using a Super
Circuits PH3 high gain mic which did the opposite making the audio to loud
so with the help of rc-cam.com
forum I added a
10k mini pot (adjustable resistor (volume control) from Radio Shack. This
solved all the audio issues.
 10k
pot for audio Gain adjustment
